Tom Compere is a multifaceted composer/musician who draws from deep experience in live Texas roots music and the Western European classical tradition.
During the 70's was an ace brass player in symphonic and marching bands. He also won recognition as a composer of fanfares for symphonic bands, which were duly performed at halftime in the finest tradition of Texas high school football. He also composed chamber works for performance by student string and wind ensembles. Auditioning on tuba, Tom was offered a seat in the Houston Symphony Orchestra immediately after high school graduation.
But instead of pursuing an orchestra career, Tom carved out a name for himself on the Texas live music circuit, performing and composing roots rock 'n' roll and paying his dues in bars, clubs, and recording sessions as a bass player and pianist.
Then, during the 90's, Tom returned to orchestral music, using the emerging technologies of MIDI sequencing and digital sample-based tone generation to create orchestral music with direct, hook-laden popular appeal in a distinctively American, contemporary idiom.
He is an extraordinarily subtle, sensitive composer but also a disciplined practical, commercially-oriented working musician. He knows how to contribute to bringing a project in on time within budget constraints.
